we built this city

"We built this city on rock and roll"-Jefferson Starship

We built this city on the backs of dead Buffalo

We built this city on the angry hands of Indian corpses

we built this city on pollution

and anger and porn.

We built this city on products from India and China

and on loveless cars that litter the streets/deathly

plastic/metal jewels of blue and black.

We built this city with concrete and metal

and we built it with stone and metal and wood.

We built it to last. Another century perhaps.

We built this city to hold prisoners and beauty queens

to hold lovers and lunatics.

We cater to every human hunger, for sex or crack or coffee...

We built this city to from love and hate and all the in-betweens

to rise, rise out of the dusty bay and tower over the ocean.

We built this City to be a half moon reflected in the eyes of a woman peering up at

the sky...and for children wading through seas of lost innocene in order to reach the

other

side of the Ocean

We built this city and the city will survive us, with dead buffalo

treading, invisibly, the freeway lanes...
