"Like Spiders and Flies"
"The Spider was black with a red chest
and the fly was green
and they were both made out of
wire and they sat on the top
of the sculpture in the room
in the museum the exhibit
dedicated to insects and how they used
to fly/not like robots fly
but like bugs that crawl in your hair
and bite you ...and the children
would stare and smile and the parents
would pass from white room to white room
pointing out pictures of animals and
plants that grew no more
here once lived an Elephant
check out it's tusks and here once
lived a rattlesnake.
The desert outside was sweltering
but in doors one could sip a coke
and dream of water and dream of elephants
and snakes and maybe the spider
scared everyone because it was
supposed to be poisonous- and so
the fly thought the better of buzzing away".
