Lament (about war and romance)
If I had loved you
I would have held you
If I had loved you
I would have caressed your soul
In mine
If I had loved you
You would have been
The light to my flame
If I had loved you
I would have held your hand in mine
And I would have said words
Of comfort and acceptance
If I had loved you
There would have been no war
If I had been real there would have been
No falsehood
No divisions between fate and freedom
Between the long darkness and the frail light
The soul of denial
Is lack of love
Between warriors
And whores
And children
Of lovers who hate
If I had stopped time
And changed your life
Maybe then
At the moment of new blood
Something else would have emerged
Maybe a peaceful solution would have
Birthed from a change in your soul
Love is nothing without free will
That is why we kill
Each other.
